Today, I have the great pleasure of presenting a panel on “The Mutants Who Walked so Xavier Could Roll” at the Capital City Comics Convention! This hour long presentation will introduce attendees to some fundamental concepts of disability studies, the intricacies of historical social structures that limited the visibility of disabled people in public during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries (so-called “ugly laws”), and the ways that mutants in comics held open a stigmatized but powerful window during this time.
My panel is at 4:00 pm in panel room 2!
